We worked with the city through permitting to allow for this. Next, as we began choosing finishes and creating the final look, we had to find the balance between HOA design requirements and client desires. While the HOA wanted wood slats and minimal modern touches on the privacy screen, the clients wanted low maintenance — no painted or stained wood that would require upkeep — and metal railing. We were able to find a compromise in which we used composite decking, matching their new deck, for the slats and railing cap. This gave the whole project a cohesive look and satisfied everyone’s needs.
